Lore[edit | edit source]

No one knows where the gnarled woods came from. The 7th Plane was once a barren landscape and then suddenly it was a woven forest of dense twisted wood. Some say the the trees simply walked there, migrating from another place and time. Others say they can hear the trees whispering in the wind calling out for their next victim. The only thing that cannot be denied are the stories told of the bone-chilling screeches coming from deep within the cold dark overgrown forest.

Watcher had been trapped for some time now, entangled in such a way that he could not move a single muscle. The woods had come out of no where and had taken hold of him. Ever so often he could feel the trees shift, but they never released their grasp. The harder he struggled to get free, the more the tree limbs and vines twisted around him constricting his every movement. The leeching vines burrowed deep beneath his skin stealing pieces of him and with each passing day his will to exist withered.

Someday soon he would be consumed by the forest, feeding whatever motivated, it was inevitable. All that was left to do was wait. As if in answer to his resignation, a booming crash erupted above his head. The whole of the woods was enveloped in the brightest light Watcher had ever seen. It was then he felt it. The trees and vines reacted to the explosion, shifting and retracting ever so slightly, but it was enough for him to wiggle his wiry frame free.

Watcher bolted out of his wooden tomb. The sounds of broken twigs and vines snapping could be heard behind him as he ran out. It felt good to run and weave through the trees. He was faster than before, as if his body was expressing its elation through unimaginable speed. However amazing the freedom felt, he could sense the anger building in the forest. Tree limbs and roots reached out grabbing at him, trying to reclaim him, but no matter which way he ran all he found was more forest.

With the trees chasing him he searched desperately for a way out, which was when he spotted a tree split straight down the middle by a brightly lit crack. A vine barely missed his shoulder, brushing past him. He had no idea what lay beyond the light, but it couldn't be worse than here. He ran straight for the split tree and through the crack. The light blinded him at first and it took a few moments before his surroundings started to take shape: large slabs of burnt stone, sharp jutting metal and not a tree in sight.

He let out a scratchy, "Argrghhharfghhhaaarhghhharh..." and ran out of sight. We can only guess at what he said but we are fairly certain it was, "Finally I am free from that absolutely horrible location. I do not think I could have survived much longer. Thank you to whomever pardoned me from such an ugly fate. You shall be justly rewarded." Or at least something close to that.
